Developing a blog in a competitive niche for a social business
About the Client
Ministry of Cat is a cat café and social business in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, which I co-founded and helped grow.
As part of the brand’s marketing strategy, I developed the blog and led the publishing approach with the aim of increasing organic visibility, reaching new audiences, and bringing in traffic beyond branded searches.
The Challenge
Ministry of Cat operates in a niche where brand awareness alone was not enough to grow visibility. The challenge was to attract people who were not already familiar with the business and expand reach through organic search.
That meant building a content strategy capable of bringing in non-branded traffic, supporting discoverability, and creating a blog that aligned with both audience interests and wider business goals.
What I Did
I developed the blog and publishing strategy with a focus on search-led content designed to increase organic visibility beyond branded queries.
My work included topic planning, keyword targeting, editorial direction, and building a content approach around relevant informational themes connected to the business. The goal was to create content that could rank for discovery-based searches while also strengthening the brand’s broader digital presence.
Results
During the period when the blog was active, the site reached an estimated 1,466 monthly organic visits in Ahrefs.
Importantly, 94.3% of that traffic (1,383 visits) came from non-branded queries, showing that the content was bringing in users beyond people already searching for the business by name.
At peak visibility, the site also ranked for 6,762 organic keywords, including:
89 keywords in positions 1–3.
149 keywords in positions 4–10.
416 keywords in positions 11–20.

This project showed me how effective a focused publishing strategy can be for a small, mission-driven business. It reinforced the value of building content around real search demand rather than relying only on brand visibility or social channels.
